Ok, I was just wondering how long it was I had my first skilesson Wink

Prob 12 years old till 16, then I was in my teens and prefered to stay home alone(!), then a mariage .. and finally got back on the Austrian slopes in my new life after 14 years Razz 2005 was the 5th year of ski. And my second in Bulgaria.
So I have 9 years of 'experience' Razz Razz Razz

re: first skilesson

Hi Tan

I learnt 10 years ago when I was 41. A mixed group got together to go to Schladming in Austria and there were 4 beginners. I will never forget my first lesson. It was in a class on a dry slope in the evening and it poured with rain. I fell and hurt my thumb. Don't think I would have continued had we not booked the holiday and was part of a group. After that I had individual lessons and got on better until we actually got to the resort. The nursery slope was solid ice and we all got ...

The nursery slope was solid ice and we all got barred from it because they said our skiing was not up to it but there was no snow to grip. Don't know how they taught anyone there.

The only alternative was to get a gondola up to a red run where you could ski down and pick up another lift to take you to a blue run. It was awful and I didn't get on well at all. My friend had a nasty fall on the red run and as a result has pins in her knee now. Schladming is a definite no no for beginners. Believe me I know!!

However I persevered and now very glad I did. Ten years on am still not a great skier but can get around the mountain and really enjoy it.

Cheers

re: first skilesson

It sure is. Work takes me to Munich tomorrow so won't be on the board. Have to do a presentation at our office there. Will have to get up at 5am tomorrow to get to the airport then I stay overnight and get up at 5am the next day also to come back. I may leave the office early on Thursday as a result as I think I will be knackered.

Cheers

We have only skiied in Borovets and our first time was in 2003. Having sorted the kids into kindergarten, got togged up and struggled up Borovets High Street we finally met our instructor Krassi.

"You With Me!!........ Now!" Wel you don't argue with that so scurried as quickly as we could to join his group.

I spent the best part of that day on my backside.

The next morning completely unable to get the muscles in my legs and arms to work was even more hysterical.

Standing on the slope, if you can call it that as it is a very gentle incline when you get the hang of things, I tried to turn around. The next thing I remember was sliding backwards, across the slope, hands on the ground, bum in the air - you get the picture - towards the kindergarten class our kids were in.

All I could hear was Krassi shouting "snoooooooow ploughhhhhhh, Elllllllieeeeee!!"
and the kids yelling "snowplough Mummy!", "snowplough Mummy!" and then jumping up and down excitedly saying "Mummy can't snowplough! Mummy can't snowplough! We can! We can!" over me as I lay in a heap!

Oh the humiliation of it all! Went back the next day of course but still the kids are better than me and always will be I imagine!

Morning Ellie,

great story Razz
Don't think that you're the only one here who did stupid things the first year(s).
Once I managed to get out of the seatlift too late and jumped behind the wheel (you know where the seats turn to go back) about 3-4 meters down! (not hurt)
Other: I managed, in full speed, to let a man fall down coz I just OVERskied him!
And I have had a crush to fall down into deep snow and then slide almost into the river, way down down...

So it wasn't funny at all to ski as a teenager! Razz Razz

But in the end as a so cold grown-up-woman, I ski normal..

re: first skilesson

Thanks Tan for the re assurance that things can only get better!

Last year I skied into what I thought was a small tree only to discover it was about 7 feet tall and I was at the top of it!! My son thought that was hysterical too!

I was also so busy getting Alister off the old 4 man ski lift at Boro that I forgot to get myself off too! I had to jump and crashed into the hut at the top!! he almost wet his sallopettes that time!!

Can't wait until next year. Back to square one I ...
