re: first time skiers

Hi Sara

My friend Judith and I have just got back from a week at Iglika Palace (my first time skiing, Judith's 4th year). Generally a nice hotel, right next to the police station, quiet at night and very near the slopes/ski depot as its behind the Rila hotel. Hi Sara

My friend Judith and I have just got back from a week at Iglika Palace (my first time skiing, Judith's 4th year). Generally a nice hotel, right next to the police station, quiet at night and very near the slopes/ski depot as its behind the Rila hotel. Borovets as a whole is a lovely place, everything on the resort is accessible by foot and we met some lovely people.

As for the bedrooms in the IP generally we thought they were adequate, having said that some things I would point out to help you feel more comfortable is that the sheets on the mattress barely fit so my friend and I took the bedspread and used them as the sheets, they kept us warm and there is a blanket on the bed too and we used them. The rooms are very warm at night and sometimes we left the balcony door open just a little bit to cool the room down. We noticed that the cleaners don't seem to like hoovering the rooms, towels seemed to be changed every day and bathrobes can be found in the wardrobes.

There are telephones and a television in the rooms (lots of channels, some UK channels and music channels too), we didn't use the telephone, instead we both had 2 mobile phones each and used the UK phone to receive texts and the spare phone we bought PAYG bulgarian sim cards from the Samakov hotel M-Tel mobile phone shop, as you can use the sim to send texts to friends/family.

The food in the hotel is ok, but like everyone else says on the discussion board it is warm and I didn't find that ther was a lot of variety, although my friend did like the food there. We did eat out a few times and its so cheap and the food is piping hot and delicious, I can recommend as a break from hotel food for sure!

The staff at the hotel are friendly and approachable and understand English quite well. Also, my friend had massages as she is an avid skiier, the IP charge 40 lev for a full hour massage but its worth going to book it at the Samakov if you want massages as they only charge 25 lev per hour which is around £9 instead of £16 (40 lev).

Some people got dressed up for the nightlife but cos it is a bit icy and very snowy underfoot can't recommend you wear stillettos!! No one really dresses up to the nines, you are not expected to dress up to go to restaurants cos you can go in your ski gear by day. There are plenty of night clubs if that's your thing. Barsrestaurants that I can recommend are: Titanic, Black Cat, Francos, Sunny Pizza, White Magic (Christo is the owner, an absolute nutter but so funny! And he's an ex olympic champ skiier and offers private lessons).

Hope this helps somewhat towards giving you an idea of what to expect, above all have a brilliant time cos I would definitely go again.

Elaine
