Hiya,
We're going to Borovets in Feb and all I can say is check out doing it yourself. We have saved thousands. Got BA flights from Heathrow to Sofia £650 return for 4 of us! Booked a Flora Apartment through Holiday Lettings, £450. Through Crystal, Balkan etc would have been over £3000 for that! Booked ski packs including equipment hire, lift passes and School for 4 of us and airport transfers for 900 Euros.Balkan PMS/Hunters ski school are very helpful and easy to deal with. So we have a ski holiday for 4 for about £1800. I thinks that's pretty impressive for half term week. Now all we have to do is pay for food and drink. Consider it! Wink

re: first timer - where to stay/what to do?

Hi Katie,
Thanks for your advice on checking out a diy package, I've had a little look but the flights are alone are 199 each and as there are only two of us going it seems to be working out about the same price as a package. I've read good things about Hotel Lion and am leaning towards that at the mo. Getting excited now!

Hotel Bansko is near to the town, been mixed reviews on here about it over the past few years, never been in myself so cant coment on personal view. You cant go wrong with the lion.

Stayed in the Mura a few years back ... nice hotel, but it's a wee bit out of the way for the gondola. Has a great spa area in the basement though

re: first timer - where to stay/what to do?

Blimey, plenty of replies indeed, thanks for being so helpful. The lion sounds lovely but on the total price it works out 200 quid more than bansko or mura so just trying to decide. The other half is a bit concerned about the food so if anyone knows which hotel offers decent food on a hal board basis would be keen to hear, hoping to make a final decision this weekend Very Happy

re: first timer - where to stay/what to do?

Hi Rachel,
we stayed in the Winslow Highland last year self catering, close to Gondala, we were self catering and there were plenty of eating and drinking establishments around. Tried to book again for first week in march but fully booked, only minor point was we had to pay for swimming, sauna etc every time we wanted to use the facility other than that had a really good holiday.

A real consideration if staying at any of the Balkan hotels, Bansko, Mura, Banderitsa, Stratzhite, Bulgaria, and Kempinski, is that you may be offered some fantastic discounts on pass/hire/instruction packages. The Ulen/Balkan/First Investment company cross finance so at times it impossible to beat their deals. Granted, it may be half board but you do not need to eat the food, and it may still work out cheaper anyway.
