it would appear that balkan holidays re issued invoices to customers but no covering letter to explain that your flight was changed from plodiv to sofia. they were sharing ba flight with thomson/crystal.
I called Balkan who advised the flight was infact operated by THOMSON HOLIDAYS; Balkan had purchased an allocation of seats from them. THOMSON HOLIDAYS cancelled the flight and Balkan had no option other than to notify their clients. At least they have moved me to Sofia, betting than cancelling my holiday completely.
I'm afraid this will always happen with tour operators at the minute due to lack in bookings. They have to move people and flights about to make it more economical for them. This has been going on for around 3years now that i knnow of. And possibly longer than hthat as when i was in UK 4years ago the same thing happened to me with Crystal.
They must be so unlucky. Flights cancelled and re-routed every year both summer and winter - hotels overbooked every year both summer and winter and it's never their fault eh?
Smell the coffee Bulgarian Pete and realize that if this happened just now and agian I would have some sympathy. BUT TO HAPPEN EVERY SINGLE YEAR is not down to bad luck or anyone elses fault but their own
Mischeivious? I'd say so!

"Balkan had no option other than to notify their clients."
they didnt even bother to notify all clients,it was discovered by mistake and despite early booking no offer to transfer pax free of charge to orginal destintation in case Plodiv
Pamporovo Pete, is there anything wrong in trying to offer an expanded programme, to try and generate interest in Pamporovo on a yearly basis?
If Plovdiv and Pamporovo are not appealing to the British Tourist you can hardly accuse Balkan of not doing their bit to try and pomote it!
Why don't you contact Balkan and recommend that they forget all about Plovdiv and not to bother trying to drum up business for this part of Bulgaria.
In my view, Balkan have done a great job ...

In my view, Balkan have done a great job historically in promoting Bulgaria, over a long period of time, when no other tour operator would even consider the country. I wonder what the Bulgarian tourism industry would be like today if Balkan had never exsisted, and remember at one point they were selling holidays to Bulgaria throughout Europe and beyond.
You are now coming from a completely different angle Bulgarian Pete. Provided they conduct themselves in a proper manner and treat their customers with respect and honesty then long may they continue to prosper.
My point is that they continue to cancel flights year in year out and it's almost always after people have committed themselves to the holiday. I have in the past had these problems with Bristol flights cancelled and passengers moved to Gatwick flights, adding one and a half hours ...

I have in the past had these problems with Bristol flights cancelled and passengers moved to Gatwick flights, adding one and a half hours to our travelling time which in turn adds to the holiday costs.
Local flights both to and from any destination is always a vote winner and certainly encourages business, but to then cancel either the local flight out or move the arrival from the local destination airport to another 2 and a half hours further away is bound to infuriate people.
On arrival in Bulgaria (and not before I travelled) I have twice been told that my hotel was overbooked and that I would be moved to another. That's in spite of me booking 10 months in advance whilst others who had just recently booked were still given rooms in my hotel.
I am convinced this is done in order to fill their less popular hotels by not removing the sell of rooms in fully booked hotels.
