We just about managed last year with sunglasses, but it got pretty hard to see when it was snowing. Intend buying goggles for this time. Some people wore helmets, some didn't, although most of the kids had them. I think they're like car seats - once they've had a few knocks, they're no good, so you might be better off buying new, rather than hiring - at least you'll know they'll work if they need to!

You will need goggles when it's snowing and durind windy conditions or when it's very cold.

Most kids were wearing helmets when we were there, because that is the sensible thing to do. A fair number of adults were also wearing helmets, but those tended to be parents of helmet-wearing youngsters.

My 14 yo boys wore helmets for snowboarding. They won't wear them for bicycling, have to wear them for cricket, and maybe snowboarding is cool and the pros wear helmets I had not a whisper of not wanting to wear a helmet.

Best to buy before you go - try TKMaxx or there is an ebay shop called skiwear4less that does good deals with very quick postage/delivery.

I would say goggles are essential if there is snowy or poor conditions - get double lenses so they don't steam up (and DON'T be tempted to save money - and waste it too - on single lenses). I got mine at TKMaxx (£70 down to £25). I'd rather have goggles than sunglasses given a choice. Usually I have both - goggles round my neck or on my head and sunglasses in a pocket depending on sun/weather conditions.
