gondola borovets

Hey never been borovets so just wondered once you have gone up in the gondola what runs can we use ? im hoping there are some blues and some easier reds cos we not quite confident to do them on snowboards yet.

Any help would be great.

P.S If there are some good runs to start with please let us know !

re: gondola borovets

All lifts up top are button lifts and there is a bit of skill needed to ride them up, have you experience on button lifts?

re: gondola borovets

Dan,

I wouldn't bother with gondola for 1st couple of days, plenty to go at from chair lifts in front of Rila hotel, then go up to top of mountain later in week.
the button lifts that they are talking about are 'bloody aweful!!
they must be 1km long, the blokes at the bottom take great fun in not helping you get on so you end up on your arse.
when you do use them, stand your ground at the bottom, he will eventually pass you a button, get yourself sorted before you set off, skiers and ...

re: gondola borovets

Thanks for the advice herman - I'll stick to the chair lifts to begin with which is fine by me !!
We are mainly looking just to progress so we wont need to be going all the way to the top right away.

Are the runs from the chairlift pretty good ? Like I say we will be happy just to have long, wide enough runs just to progress our turns

Thanks

re: gondola borovets

When you get off at the top station there are 2 runs down, a red and a black, both are lovely big long slopes. Take the red down and cut off at the wee pathway and get back on at the middle station to take you back up to the top again. If you miss the cut off point and ski on down you will have a long hateful walk back to the bottom station.

re: gondola borovets

there is plenty to be going on with and you are straight on it!
the gondala is 25 mins long + what could be 1 hours queue.
the web cam picture is of a blue (might be red) in front of the rila hotel, although this bit is busy because of the learner drivers, the rest is ok
I cant remember which chair lift it i, but I think the highest one comes out on to a blue, you can make your way right back down to the village from here.

re: gondola borovets

hey there. me and my gf just got back (both snowboarders) and found a good cheeky little red run that is just to the left as you come of the Gondola. It seems to have a blue bit mixed in with the run, but its great for all boarders. It takes you down to the half way station.
If you hit the chair lift (oppsite the Rila) just be a bit careful i would say, stupidly we got lost one day, and that was scary( i know we were a little thick that day) and also theres a few places where if your not ...

If you hit the chair lift (oppsite the Rila) just be a bit careful i would say, stupidly we got lost one day, and that was scary( i know we were a little thick that day) and also theres a few places where if your not so confident and there isnt fresh snow, can be extreamly icy and its difficult to do side slippng cause your board wont grip, and just fly out underneath you.
But if the weather cool, go for that too. Hope that helps a bit (obviously thats just our opinion!)

re: gondola borovets

Dan,
You are obviously a seasoned Borovets visitor, I could not have described the button lifts better if I wanted to.
I hate them and they nack on the nuts don't they?
