just back from Boro..

What a fantastic holiday we have just had and a big thank you to everyone here for all the tips and updates you gave before we left.

It was virtually the last week of the season, but when we arrived the snow was absolutely perfect. It stayed good up to about mid week but then started becoming slushy on the lower Rila slopes.

Friday was the only bad day when the temp had dropped overnight and it was crusty and icey. The goldola was closed for the first few days due to winds/mechanical problems so we didn't get to do Yastrabets as often as we would have liked. Fortunately it was end of seasons so even when the Gondola was closed it was not too crowded on the Rila side.

We stayed at the Samakov which despite its retro appearence functioned perfectly adequately. The reception bar was a great place to catch up with new friends and recount the expoits of the day over a hot chocolate and brandy. The nightclub is daggy but we still managed to have a fab party there on the last night!!

Massages at the Samokov with Mitko make you feel as if you have gone to heaven and only cost 25 levs.

The Samakov ski school was well organised the equipment fine and most of the instrctors were really great. I had old(er) George the first few days who really tired his best to encourage me despite being a wimp and wanting to go into a lower class. The level was the biggest problem for me as there wasn't really a class at my level, being the end of the season.
Not having skiied for 14 years, to my horror I was put in the top group with loads of (lovely and very sweet) guys who wanted to go faster, so not a great way to build confidence for me. In the end I found the perfect solution with George's help. My daughter was snowboarding so I got her private lessons with the wonderful Bobby and just skiied with them at my own pace. I would definitely recommend Bobby if you want snow boarding lessons. The first day he took Lily down a red run and told me not to worry that she would be boarding well by the time she got to the bottom - he was right. He is a fantastic instructor and we will remember all the places he took us and the BBB's (Bobby's brandy breaks - a quick swig for the hip flask and off we go again). By the third day we were doing blacks confidently and (hopefully) with style.

We ate out every evening and did not have one bad meal. Steaks at Katy's and the Red Lion were fab and the turkish bread at Harry Potters a sight to behold.
Favourite bars were Titanic and 101. Staff great fun.

We met loads of really lovely people and we will be keeping in touch with them.Thank you Dan and Co, Beth and Wendy, Dionne and Claire, Adran and Claire, Helen( the abs!!) and Anthea, Jill and Nigel for making it such a fantastic holiday.

See you all back in Borovets next year.
Linda and Lily
