just back from Borovets!!!!!

Hi everyone, just back from that Bulgaria place...got a good suntan ... Very Happy

Not good news on the snowfront...very icey on the lower slopes and the only decent snow is up top...queues for gondala therefore very long indeed!!!!!

When we left yesterday it was a bit foggy and people there were saying they do not expect any more snow.

I do have one complaint and it relates to the ski instructors. We wanted to sit outside on the second day...you know in the sun and soak up the atmosphere ...

I do have one complaint and it relates to the ski instructors. We wanted to sit outside on the second day...you know in the sun and soak up the atmosphere and our instructor took the hump and refused to speak to us again.....later after a verbal outburst from said instructor we decided not to go back to lessons...i personally found him to be a 'follow me' type guy and not a teacher of skiing. Red run after red run on ice on first morning was a bit much...knees broke Very Happy

The beginner in our group was taken on a 17km hike on first day after just learning to snow plough....couldnt walk on second day!!! and knocked any confidence right out of him!!

On a positive note i really liked Borovets and the smell of the pine wood burning on the open stoves really adds to the atmosphere along with all the xmas fairy lights.

Hotel Ela suprised me after reading some negative reports but couldnt have wished for better really...only one small gripe is that after reading negative points prior to going we were locking our clothes etc in suitcases every day which was a pain but i feel necessary as on the second day i came home early and found the cleaners had left our door open!!!

Food in Ela was really good and we had plenty to eat...love that cheese that goes on the shopska salad...mmm.

Overall we had a great time and would visit again!!!
Very Happy

It sounds like your instructors were a real nightmare ?

We have NOT had any bad reports about any instructors from our party of eighteen in different groups.

I think it would be worth reporting these “bad” instructors to the Ski Schools so that the issue can be addressed. I’m sure there are plenty more people out there looking for a job as a Ski Instructor.

Several years ago we found a superb instructor, and have used him each time we return. This was the 5th visit this time and the forth with the same instructor. We keep in touch all year via text & email and advise him as to when we will be there as soon as we know.

Regards,

Gary

re: just back from Borovets!!!!!

I agree with Gary. It's your holiday so you should enjoy it, but don't let others have to suffer the same fate.
Been 6 times now, 4 of which have been with the same instructor. Contact him every year. Top bloke.
Hope you had a good week in spite of this, I certainly did. Can't wait till next year
PS Was that you in the Black Cat Friday night (9th)? Seemed to fit your description (V. sparkly)!!!

hi gary, if we go again think we will just organise private lessons when we get there...its a shame it all went a bit pear shaped but we put it to the back of our minds and reminded ourselves that above all it had to be fun...doing our own thing was much better but didnt feel i improved on my turns Very Happy
