just back from Borovets

Hi all

Just back from Borovets, those of you who went out this weekend are in for a treat - loadsa snow. It's been snowing constantly for the last few days.

The lower slopes however are still quite icy/bare, so if you want the best of the conditions then get up early before the top covering gets scraped away, as has happened every day to date.

I was expecting a lot of piste bashing this year after the talk of new machinery etc at the start of the season but I didn't see any daytime ...

I was expecting a lot of piste bashing this year after the talk of new machinery etc at the start of the season but I didn't see any daytime bashing at all. Not sure what is happening in this regard - I've heard from some locals that there has been a change in management from last year and that this might be causing problems, but I've no idea whether this is true or not. Shame though, it would be good to compact all this good snow so early in the season.

On the plus side, the conditions above mid-Gondola currently are excellent with great skiing to be had.

Queues to the Gondola are much longer than I experienced last year. So either get up early, or go after midday. Between 9:30 and 11:30am there were waits of up to 45 mins. I'm guessing it is because the lower slopes on Rila have to date been a little dangerous to beginners and the ski schools have headed up to the top gondola area.

Another great holiday though in Boro, great to see my friends there again, + make some new ones, and of course get some good skiing in.

cheers, enjoy yourselves if you are out there soon, and behave well!
