Just back also from pamps. Stayed at hotel orolvetz- lovely and if going there use the spa and get your massages from Tahne-excellent!!
We booked everything thru Directski and they used the Pamp. ski school based out of Ski Centre 1. Was not impressed with them- skis not waxed on day one and ended up nearly dragging half of lovely snow underfoot accross to ski lifts. Had to pay 5 lev next day. No adjustment of bindings on skis. was our second time skiing and ski instructor-richard- whilst a pleasant fella- did not seem able to give insrtuction to a mixed ability group, spent a lot of time racing ahead or looking at you but telling you nothing. Would be great for more experienced skiers but not novices. Some in group got instruction privately.
Maybe we were spoilt by andorra last year with excellent instruction and good equipment.
Enjoyed pamps but so much development going on will the slopes be able to cope with more people?
We just came back from pamp aswell. We pre-booked learn to board package with thomsons who use ski centre 2. We also had to pay 5 lev to get them waxed, obviously a money making opportunity, but at only 5 lev when they get paid peanuts good luck to them.
Also just back from Pamporovo and not only my first time in Bulgaria but my first time snowboarding.
Hotel Pamporovo was better than expected, no complaints (apart from it being last on the bus pick up route so occassionally having to hang around for the next one as they're so crowded).

Amy's description of the slopes is spot on, the resort needs more green runs, desperately. The resort is set up for beginners so they need to cater to them more by cutting a few trees down and losing a few of the many red and black runs. The one and only green run deteriorated badly over the course of the week due to sheer traffic and it was only due to the fact my instructor had pointed out an off piste blue run that my girlfriend and I had a good last two days boarding/skiing.
Having said that, it could have been on one of the many different maps of the mountain, but none of them seemed to accurately recreate what number each run was or where they actually started / finished. We ended up sticking to what we knew and keeping a mental bearing of where we were.
The mountain could also do with another decent chair lift from bottom to top, currently there is only one and the "queues" can get pretty messy, particularly as a couple of red and black runs finish right at the start of the queue so people whizz down and just push in at the front. Sadly this generates a fair bit of ill feeling in the line, particularly after being elbowed and shoved for 20 minutes, and I witnessed a few filthy looks and heard a few bitchy comments. If only everybody would queue sensibly like a good Brit things would be much more efficient!
Best advice I received pre-departure, and indeed the best advice I can in turn pass on, get one-to-one tuition. It's no that much more expensive and the intense tutorage you get over the sporadic attention in a ski-school is more than worth the cost. One-to-one lessons mean you learn at your own pace and are neither struggling to keep up with better skiers/boarders or being held up by those struggling a little more. My 'boarding instructor, Angel, was excellent and thoroughly recommended - three 2 hour lessons and I'd been transformed from total novice to shooting down the red runs. Ask for him at the boot hire place and you can arrange lessons (mostly) according to your timetable. I had a lesson booked with him one day but had hurt my neck so he simply slotted me into a couple of hours on his day off - a top feller!
All in all it's a pretty good resort, but you can go there on the cheap and you get what you pay for. I had a blast, but I suspect my girlfriend and I have already outgrown the resort and would look for something with a bit more green and blue run variation.
