just back from my local, why is it, that the last pint is the one that finishes you off???

i have been out for few myself. just at the local, but i had the choice , stop at five or down a quick 6th before the wife picked me up. i chose the 6th option ,and my head is spinning now. i was as sober a a judge at 5
