How is she gonna stop them? Lock them in school for a week? What's the worst thing she can do - an unauthorised absence? Or maybe it's an exclusion offense in her school.Just do it - WHOSE KIDS ARE THEY AFTER ALL?
(This whole school / holiday debate is really making me angry, as you can probably tell.)

If the kids were constant truants, they would probably be taken on a ski holiday by social services!I run a private beauty college, and it costs a lot of money to train at my place. We are constantly taking on 15/16 year old girls who "dont like school" and therefore don't go. Guess who pays for their training? U got it - education dept of local authority!
ps - one of my friends takes his kids out and just phones them in sick every day, wrong but effective.

Its about time the tour operators were forced to keep their prices the same as normal term time. I have just priced up going in the school holidays and they want over £2000 and thats not including the ski packages!! I would rather pay the £100 fine than pay these prices! Have just been to Borovets and took my daughter out for a week but luckily her school are ok but she moves up to middle school this year so don't know what her new school will be like about her missing school.Jane

Taking my kids out of school -13 and 17. Only sent the hol forms in yesterday (7 days notice).Now will dread answering the phone all next week in case I get a telling off. (i'll just leave the answer phone on!)
But WHY should we feel like this, my kids never have time off - they are never ill.
Already taught them some bulgarian myself.
One spent the morning before end of last term watching Shrek in German - wot use is that?

My son has gon to Boro today with his dad, he is 13 (son that is, not his dad!). Sent holiday form into School last week. Havnt heard anything, so hoping no probs. I would have thought, as long as you notify the school and it is not a regular occurance, there shouldnt be a prob. As already said, tour operators are to blame due to there inflated prices, especially for skiing holidays, as there are not many school holidays in the skiing season.

Also, why dont they tackle the parents of and the kids who play truant for half their school lives. It is those kids whose education is being damaged. So leave of the authorised absentees, as apart from their hols they probably attend school 99% of the year.So na na nana na.
