mobile data roaming

Just a word of advice, switch off your mobile data roaming before you go on holiday. If you don't it can be very expensive. Sorry if I am telling you things that you may already know. Cheers.

re: mobile data roaming

Good advice. If you have an iPhone it's important to turn off all push messaging. My wife got caught out last year and got charged £160 for receiving a few e-mails she didn't even log on to read. Orange charge £8 per megabyte unless you have a bolt on.

re: mobile data roaming

Good advice indeed. Don't forget that loads of places have free WiFi to keep on top of email etc.

thanks for the tip, another thing for the checklist... money , passport etc etc

horrible isn't it the cost of roaming, hopefully the network operators will be forced to change this soon and put a cap on roaming charges before we get fleeced like this :-(

re: mobile data roaming

Add Euro roaming data (I have it FOC) and you are getting 25MB a day roaming data which is plenty and if you go closer(24mb you will receive txt saying that) for regular use and searches ,how cool is that.knowledge is power Smile
And start using Blackberry if you want data to be heavily compressed without rubbish coming through and instant emails only.

re: mobile data roaming

Admittedly it was 3 years ago but I was using WIFI in a hotel. I turned off the GPRS on the phone. When I returned, I had a £40.00 bill from T-mobile. When I questioned it I was told it was because they detected "roaming". When I asked what was the point in having WIFI on the phone when I could have just used GPRS as I was being charged for it anyway. The person at the callcentre said it was for people who were on a "pay as you go" package. When I said all that would do was to empty your credit. The reply was to have no credit on your "pay as you go " sim and use it for WIFI abroad. After this I took another phone to use for the email only, again with a "pay as you go " sim but with £4.00 credit. Your emails only have the subject plus the first 3 lines of the message. You only open up the rest if you want to.

Reffering above to Vodafone.
In your situation sk22 with that poxy network I would:
Make sure I turn the network OFF and them ONLY I switch ON the wifi .that way I will know I am not using network data roaming.

re: mobile data roaming

This is the message I get every single day while on the slopes:
From Vodafone: Just to let you know that you have a 25MB data allowance to use in this country today. We will let you know if you get close to using all this allowance.
Also in Blackberry defence because the whole work goes via BB server everything is heavily compressed so it goes much further that androids phones or Iphones.
