mobile phones for ski hire

Are mobile phones still expensive in bulgaria? I heard a couple of years ago that some ski hire places were willing to take unlocked mobile phones for part payment of ski hire etc. Wandering if this is still the case?

I remember when I was in Bulgaria, Bulgarian people would ask me to bring an old mobile phone with me, so they must be expensive enuf. Best to get the number for some ski hire shops there and ring em
