Text or e-mail is much cheaper failing that if you must talk to someone then buy a phone card and use a real telephone - the sort with a wire hanging out of the back.
O2 if you call them or look on website, will reduce calls to 35p per min for receiving or calling from Bulgaria, its a free service you just have to register. I couldn't find the same for my friend whos with Orange though, does anyone know if its easy to get bulgarian sim card in Pamps just to contact your mates on the slopes at lunchtimes to meet up?
Most supermarkets will sell a bulgarian sim card for 15 Leva, once activated you will (If I remember) you get 20levs of calls/texts. best thing to do is leave some credit on the phone, then you can top it up next time you go to BG.
just got back from pamps, the phone cards are cheap and the room phone was cheaper, ve were very suprised when we got a bill for 1.8 lev for 2 5 min calls, i think this is the best option
