re: mobiles

You need to contact your supplier and ensure your phone has been unlocked for overseas access. You only ever need to do this once.

When you arrive your phone will search and pick up a local server.... usually M-Tel
but beware of the costs as it is very expensive to use your mobile phone in Bulgaria. You will also foot the bill for any incomming calls whilst you are there.

It will be cheaper for you to buy a phonecard and use that.

re: mobiles

I didn't realise that the charges had gone up so much. A couple of years ago with orange, it was 80p/min. I checked the vodafone site after reading a couple of todays posts, and now it's £1.95/min !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is extortionate. Crying It's even £1.25/min to receive. I won't be making any more calls unless absolutely necessary, on my mobile.

re: mobiles

These rates are about right with Orange as well. I use it only as a last resort, and mostly only text. One can get phonecards for public phones, or if you want to experiment, you buy a card for a mobile phone for ~20lev (your phone needs to be unlocked before that, that's a bit tricky).

re: mobiles

The other idea is to buy a local SIM. Works out quite cheap. Make sure your phone is unlocked tho.
