re: money exchange - Euro or dollar ?

you can take levs in and out of bulgaria, but the rates you get are rubish.the best rate for changing pounds when i was there at christmas was the bank just up the road from the gondola (where the taxi rank is )i got 2.75 lev to the pound there.in the rila hotel they were offering 2.4 to the pound.i did use the atm machine there but only got 2.69 lev to the pound and i was charged £1.50 as well.i hope this helps you

re: money exchange - Euro or dollar ?

Based on my experience euro is more preferable than USD. A week ago the x-rate in Pamporovo was 1.5 lev per USD and 1.82 per euro. You can also use ATM.

Change money in the Banks or Hotels only.
Euro's will be fine to change.
