Realise this is a ski discussion but would like to know if anybody has any input on mountain biking in Bansko.
Im in the process of purchasing an apartment in Bansko, (Balkan Heights) have just had a great holiday there but am thinking of the summer as well..does anybody know what the mountain biking in the area is like during the Summer?
ie. Is the gondola open in the Summer to take bikes? Are there tracks to follow?
Have a word with James at the Avalon Hotel or track down Lewis on the Bansko forum (just google it) as they are involved as much as there is at the moment.
I spoke with James last week while skiing and he is very confident that he will have his mountain biking trails up and running shortly. He is also in discussion about the possibility of getting a part of the gondola open as well during the summer. Well worth contacting James for latest news.
There are hire shops now - most close in the summer but some will for sure be around. Or you can rent bikes from many of the hotels. Not sure of the standard, but they will all be new (ish)
good idea, lets keep the forum alive in the summer too for biking
yes you can hire most types of bikes in bankso in the summer, and there are loads of trails to ride
james is actually running a competition in july if you can make it then, and im actualy selling my downhill bike (giant atx dh1, boxxers, hope hydraulics etc) if you want your own decent bike to keep in bankso
lewis
was in andorra last year and they were hiring MTB with day lift pass included, seemed a good option for summer season , a lift up the hill to hurtle down...! all day long
Lots of opportunities for MTB in Bansko, if you fancy a little ride come with me, we will climb up to the Vihren hut, only 16K UPHILL about 2 1/2 hours....
Looking into hire, possibly ex factory Kona, and gearing my large bus for bike carriage (8 bikes plus riders), so i can drive you to the top of the mountain, and you lazy lot can ride down
Have done one of James routes, in reverse, about 70K, right around the Razlog basin... Stunning scenery, little challanges like stream ...
