Irish Pub, cheapest beer in town, reasonable food at good price..
Bistro Pirin, again cheap beer, very good local food at good price..
The local supermarket, cheap everything...
Avoid Happy End, expensive everything, and podium dancers to boot...
You will pay a premium as you would expect, but try `Friends' at Shilligarnika, locally owned (not Ulen !), go into the traditional restaurant, not the fast food side, and try some of the local dishes, white cheese banski style in a clay pot, with tomatoes, peppers, chillis, and an egg broken over the top, a slice of garlic bread, all for less than 10lv, a bottle of Pirinska is 4lv (500ml)...
You can sit outside and order from the stands, a large gyros (kebab) 7lv, large slab of pizza 6lv, ...

I agree with you Rich, I do not think the prices have gone up since last year, Maybe in Hotel bars and the expesive placees, like happy end and lion pub which people seem to recomend , then moan about the prices.you cant blame the bulgarians for the pound !
try Pizza Zanthe, next to the retro bar, you ccan eat and drink for 10 leva, Yafata,in the square is good, but go on a half price day, they advertise it outside. My favourite is Gusoka,go down pirin street, turn left at the crossroads ...

My favourite is Gusoka,go down pirin street, turn left at the crossroads (just before the church), then first left into the old town, turn imediately right and you will see two mehanas with Pirinsko signs, just past them is another with a coca cola sign, that is it. the owner nicki runs it with his wiife and speaks vvery good english.
Nik b, its a bit of a trek from the gondola to the main supermarket, you will find smaller BIlla/Balli supermarkets nearer but avoid like the plague, expensive... There is a little corner shop on the way down to the Irish Pub, always open, and quite reasonable, does local veg and eggs, and lovely fresh bread....
