another thought provoking question, nothing against a country or a resort trying to improve itself but the capacity of pamporovo resort next year is set to more than double but and this is a health and saftey BUT,the mountain we all ski down aint big enough and if you have 12000 i will say that again 12000 people by midweek all skiing from the top down there is going to be accidents it might well do for the local economy but i think the bulgarians that control and run this resort should ...

must admit if they expand it to those levels there will be more accidents, where they do the lessons now was packed and it was hard not to run into each other, the slopes where realy busy this year as well, the problem they have got out there is if there are too many reports of accidents more people will be put off. need to make more runs to cope with that amount of people.
the mountain is not big enough in my opinion to create more runs without losing the charater of the place with all the lovely trees that are plastered in snow this time of year plus they have to consider the summer trade if they chop more trees down to create more runs it wont look so intresting to summer walkers
I was skiing in Voralberg recently (not known to the average, package holiday type of Brit), at cost no greater than that in Bulgaria, incl. flights, hotel, etc (but that is a subject for another conversation). The Austrians have put a limit on the number of tourists that can visit the place, so facilities are excellent, short queues at the lifts, everything is extremely well organised and there are no accidents of the type you have mentioned above. The problem with Bulgaria is that whereas the State relies on handouts from the European Union only to improve the infrastructure, it cannot control construction (give the appropriate bribe to the local authority and you can build anything you want, anywhere you want). The entire administration (police, courts, customs, civil servants from local authorities up to the Government stinks of coruption and it is all about greed, greed and greed again!
They are not expanding like Bansko, for one they can't bulid in the mountains like they can on the plains of Bansko, so I don't think it will be too bad. They are trying to build more runs on the neibouring mountain, but they have to get past goverment restictions on changes to the environment first. Nice to know they are looking after the environment!
As for queueing, Borovets gets the prize for that! For Hours and Hours and Hours of queues!! none of that in Pamps!
i know guys just back 2 wks ago. No bother at all. A few new hotels, extra numbers not noticed.
Go in two wks cant wait.
Enough of the doom and gloom guys
