pamporovo no 1

yesterday returned with partner from 1st ever skiing hol. we have travelled a lot of the world and personally have never fancied skiing being a golf nut, but after being persueded booked a week as complete greenhorns staying at the pamporovo. the best holiday we have ever had, took us 15 mins to walk to ski lift with those heavy things you put on your feet b/4 the skis. I did not realise I could laugh so much. 4 adults and 9 kids in a beginners group, and the kids were miles ahead of us [no fear] started sun and on tues afternoon did the green run [will admit I fell twice] wed did the both blue runs fell once and have now really got the bug already booked for 2005. fell off the button lift 3 times. end of season clothes etc were selling for nothing. thanks to mima brilliant instructor. will post later about non sking fun. being in a group found you are thrown together and the fun and comradeship was out of this world and have made friends for life.

if you would have gone earlier and got more snow you would of had even more fun. Razz
try boarding next time, if you do give it a go try to get Koti as your instructor.
when are you going next year ?

Yet another Pamporovo convert. Razz Glad to hear you had so much fun Razz

As Carl rightly said, you did leave it very late in the season, try and book late Jan/early Feb next year. More snow more people = more nightlife and above all even more fun.

going 20 march due to work I do can go no earlier. this year no snow btm half, patchy until the very top and that is where we were given our 1st instruction. a small slope in front of the top cafe. brilliant. eat out every night even though half board and that gave us more laughs than the ski slopes

I was in Pamps last week too! Iv'e been wondering whether anyone saw me?! We were two boarders (me and my b/f), I was wearing a black and white jacket. I was snowboarding like a tw*t!! Snow was far too icey for my poor botty, I liked Pamps, but I think being 21 and all, I need more going on (and more boarders!!!).

We stayed in the Rozhen, it was basic, but then that was to be expected. Food was, I hate to say it, rank. On thurs nite, there was no buffet for some reason and the waiter ...

We stayed in the Rozhen, it was basic, but then that was to be expected. Food was, I hate to say it, rank. On thurs nite, there was no buffet for some reason and the waiter just kept bringing us random food that we didn't want! On Friday night, there were kids in the rooms all around us - I think it was a school trip. They were being so noisy, I decided to knock on the wall thinking that they would realise that we were annoyed. Did it hell?! Suddenly about 8 Bulgarian kids burst into our room (we'd only just got back, hence not locked the door), they looked shocked, I was in my bloody underwear!!! I was absolutley FUMING. Reception were very good however and moved us straight away to a room on the third floor.

If you go to Cosmos - don't drink the Bulgarian chamagne. I only had two glasses yet was throwing up in the middle of the night.

Slopes as I said earlier were very bare and very icy. Plus, there were too many skiiers and boarders who seemed to be going faster than their skill level could cope with and sunsequently nearly taking out half the popultaion going down the run. Plus there were too many rude people - it doesn't take a lot to say sorry if you knock someone over or carve straight over their board. Mad

From this report it sounds like I had a crap time, but I really didn't! I had so much fun and I can almost call myslef an intermediete boarder. Pamps was very pretty, and it was an excellent choice for my first time boarding abroad. Just hankering for something a bit more meaty - think I'm going to try Tignes next. A girl's gotta snowboard the world....!

Some interesting points you make, but I really do believe you went far too late in the season to appreciate how wild the night-life can be in high season. Any time from Jan till end of Feb is the busiest time and if, as you said you need more going on, you need to try and get there somewhere between these times.

As for Tignes....... fantastic skiing and boarding, the slopes go on forever, but as for night-life.... forget it!!!!

I went there 3 years ago and the whole town goes to bed at 9pm. Just a few bars with very little going on at all.

Give Pamporovo another try if you can during the peak season..... I promise you will find it so much better.
