you'll have a great time. Bansko is what it is - its not the Alps but your not paying Alps prices. The town has a lot of building work going on, and there is still a long way to go and many improvemnts to be made, but it is getting better every year.

The mountains and Gondola ride though are stunning.

Have a great time

Pirin Rise is a good development, well built and well maintained.
If you are coming out just after the new year the queues will be small after the Christmas/new year rush...
You will have no problems eating and drinking, traditional, tourist, as expensive or as cheap as you like...
The nightlife is low key, but there is something for everyone, im sure you will not be disappointed...

Your accomadation is about a ten minute walk from the gondola, but you are reasonably placed for visiting the old town, in fact you are very near to our old apartment in Stefan Karadja...
There are many good traditional restaurants, prices will be keen hopefully throughout. If i can give one piece of advice if it is your first visit, bring sterling and change it here, £20.00, clean notes, Alpha Bank just off the square will give you the best day rate, my experience is that you will better the offered rate in the UK by at least 10%...
Anything else you need to know, mail me Cool

Its also Orthodox Xmas at this time (7th Jan) so the place should have plenty of Russians and Serbs who are always a lot of fun

maybe worth noting that most of the traditional restaurants, (that have a lot of charm and pretty cheap) also have the traditional toilet, which is usually shared (men and women), and just the hole in the ground type... if your legs are sore after a day on the piste, or you are particularly fussy, this can be a bit unpleasant Surprised the modern places, like victorias (opposite kempinski hotel) (fantastic food by the way) have proper toilets. If you want to spend a bit more money, the sushi place in the kempinski looks great (was closed during the week in summer) or the resaurant in basement of the lucky bansko apartments near the bottom of the town looked nice, although didn't eat there either...

Every Mehana I have been to have had normal toilets and I have tried many different places.

Mixed - some are but its cubicles only and franly very few.

Some toilets are quite poor (some really sh*t excuse the pun) but most are fine and in the good hotels they are stunning.

re: pirin rise apartments

My parents own one of the apartments in Pirin Rise and I stayed there in Feb this year and Im returning for the new year. The apartments are absolutly fine. (speaking for my own) but the apartment block is well developed and in great condition. It is about 5/10mins walk for the gondala but that is at the top of town anyway. You will pass shops and bars to get to it. I think Bansko has kept its traditional style. Some place are more expensive then others but you'll soon figure it out.

Have fun. Hopefully the indoor pool at Pirin will be finished by the time I go. They have steam rooms there too which is lovely after a day on the slopes. Enjoy
