re: planning a skiing holiday on new year's eve

Like Daniel, we were in Bansko for NYE 2008 and can vouch for the 2 hour queues at the gondola! We took the other appoach though and went up the mountain at about 12.30pm and stayed up there till late.

Also conditions at this time of year can be hit and miss - all depends on the weather... I know in 2007, there was loads of snow, but last year there wasn't and the pistes weren't very well groomed in my opinion (compared to my visit in Feb 200Cool... Hence this season, I'm sticking to late ...

Hi guys, in relation to ques at the Gondola in Bansko. There are always taxis available outside the Happy End.

Taxi's will take you just above mid station.

One day last year we were running late for class (Out late the night before). 4 of us jumped in a taxi and got up the mountain for 40 lev, which is about 20 Euro, 17.50GBP.

Worth E5 a head, if the que is 2 hours long!!!

There is another option - get a taxi to the end of the Chalin Valog run and use that lift to get to the mid-station and thence to the top of the gondola. Very sly and its only about a km. Most of the gondola cabins go up with 6 rather than the designated 8 people so budge them over and Bob's your mother's brother. Or just ski on Chalin Valog until the constipation clears on the gondola

like the sound of that Steve - is this a new service or have you always done it?!

What's the process - if there were only 2 of us from say Bojurland, would you wait for more demand or would you go up for 10lv?

Its really not viable for 10lv mate, its at least an hour up and back, but last season we picked up from Bojurland, and we had to turn people away...
We'll get 12 in the bus (7 sitting (kids etc) and 5 standing, all the skis/boards in the back out of the way...
Driving up through the snow is interesting Wink, and we drop at the car park beside blue 1 between Shillgarnika and the gondola, straight into your skis, and off Razz
We don't want to stand on the taxis drivers toes, so pre-booking ...

We don't want to stand on the taxis drivers toes, so pre-booking is essential, effectively a private hire... We will also get you up before the lifts open if required, great on fresh powder days Cool

Not a bad idea to have a 'powder express' to get people up first thing on powder days.... Or up first thing on any nice day frankly

Did Pamps a few years ago, had a great time, don't expect to see any instructers though on new years day. Having said that the slopes were nearly empty and we had the runs to ourselves, perfect.

re: planning a skiing holiday on new year's eve

Hi,
I have been to borovets for new year 2006/2007 and my parents have an apartment in Bansko so I have been there too. They are both beautiful but Bansko has a lot more to offer in terms of nightlife, places to eat etc. I am going to Bansko this new year so I hope it is just as good then as it was when I went in Feb. I hope this helps
