Plodiv old town quite nice, but as for the newer part it would make the perfect cold war gray Russian film set. You will be shocked by how little is stocked in the shops which mainly sells clothes of various quality. To be fair it was very clean with litle old ladys picking up litter and sweeping all the time and no sign of crime but you did get that unmistakable feeling of that underworld gangster type atmosphre. As for bargains their was nothing you would want to buy and when you do enter a shop the assistant follows you round shoulder shoulder and picks out articals for you to look at, the words "just looking" dint cut it in Plodiv
