re: Back from Boro - take me back again!

I organised a trip to Boro for 6ppl and just got back today. My third and best ski trip – first to Bulgaria (other two were Austrian alps), also one of the best holidays I have had. We will be coming back for sure. Mostly down to Stoyan taking care of us, private instructor but took care of everything.

FLIGHT
Flew easyjet from Manc. no probs.

TRANSFER
Arranged through Stoyan. 70Lev each way per car, sorted ski hire along the way and picked up apartment keys too.

FLIGHT
Flew easyjet from Manc. no probs.

TRANSFER
Arranged through Stoyan. 70Lev each way per car, sorted ski hire along the way and picked up apartment keys too.

PASSES
Booked lift pass for £97 from, collected from rep in Samakov hotel.

EQUIPMENT HIRE
Through Stoyan, 90Lev for the week. Not brand new equipment, but very helpful – somehow one of my poles shrank in the wash, went with two 125’s came back with one 115 and also a damaged ski – everything was sorted no questions asked.

ACCOMMODATION
Booked penthouse in Borovets Hills (Semiramida Gardens). This 5* complex was full of contrasts, gorgeous hotel but totally dead! 10mins walk to Yastrabets red run 3, but 15Lev taxi to Boro centre. At £700 for the week for 6 people (£16.67 pp/night), no complaints.
LESSONS
Stoyan delivered the best 1-to-1 tuition I've had. He had a complete beginner on the black run on the 5th day, on the sixth the beginner was being shown how to tackle jumps, race and do 360 turns (no kidding!). Stoyan was an overall star and really made the trip what it was - he did alot for us. He also arranged a second instructor so we could all get to the same level quicker.

FOOD
We alternated staying in and eating out, no complaints with the food out but surprisingly pricey. Mamacitas Mexican was v tasty 45Lev/head inc cocktails. But we also had a Baba Losa crazy and funny experience in Samakov – traditional Bulgarian food/drinks, transport all in for 35lev!

WEATHER
was icey for first day or two and became slushy in the afternoons and beginners struggled with that. then with the huge dump on tuesday conditions for the rest of the trip were good on the main Boro slopes but still some icey patches. Markudjik/Yastrebetz side was amazing.

TRANSPORT
Agree price before with driver, if they take the p1$$ find another one - try to get numbers and make a regular.

CONCLUSION
Novices are now ski junkies – we are all in love with Borovets and can’t wait to get back – owe alot to Stoyan.

Borogirl - it depends who goes - if its experienced skiers then I would stay there again without a doubt, you can get on the Yastrebetz slopes without the gondola. If you know the green run that goes down to the Rila side - you can ski most of Borovets from that one place! For beginners it might be better to stay in the main resort, but we made friends with a taxi driver and paid 10Leve each trip. They didnt always charge to use the pool/jaccuzi, it was 5lev when they did.

Baba Losa! Oh-my-god, Baba=Grandma, you go to the house of this lovely and crazy Bulgarian granny who forces everyone to drink rakia (wine & beer all inclusive) with a wink and a 'bottoms up' to any slackers. then stuffs bread and food down you. Food was very nice, some kind of potato/pork hot-pot thing. She sang for us, did some wool spinning (stuffing some wool down a guests's top saying 'Silicone' ). Then...then there was this...http://www.box.net/shared/28avys8a50

I understand now - had a few evenings like that. Our friends love plying homemade rakia on my hubby, I just stick with the food so I can get him back in one piece, although often missing his head Exclamation Very Happy Very Happy
