The restaurants are, I was charged 120 Lev (60 euros) for a bottle of house wine at the retaurant Dedo in Pirin street, just down from the Lion Bar and junction or Pirin and glazne streets. I've never been charged that much for house wine anywhere.
The Russian tour operaters are pulling out because of to many complaints http://international.ibox.bg/news/id_986073186

re: are bulgarians ripping us off

We bought into Royal Plaza 2 yrs ago which is smack dab in the centre of the resort of Borovets.
Have rented them out for the past 2 seasons.
The complex has been built very well and we are very pleased with the finished result.
Everyone involved with maintaining the complex etc are really nice to deal with.
We are happy!!! Very Happy

Mr Jeffrey....you ask "did I not ask the price first?" Not on this occasion, I have eaten in this restaurant several times on a previous visit to Bansko and enjoyed it, returning several times. On this occasion we had just arrived and went there for a meal after the journey, as we sat down I asked for a bottle of house wine while we looked at the menu. This is the piont, last season, and the season before, prices in Bansko were reasonable, but now they are ripping us off. Have you ever paid ...

I haven't , not even in expensive retaurants in UK , let alone a simple mekhana in Bulgaria. Bansko is nolonger offering value over the Alps if they continue to rip us off. I'll be going back to the Alps next season.

A lot of people have been complaining about high prices and duel pricing in Bg. Surely if enough people complained to them and refused to pay such high prices, or walked out then possibly the Bulgarians would get the message.

Hi all,
Vote with your feet, determine the price before ordering anything outside the menu, query menu prices etc. The Bulgarian business ethic unfortunately exists in Bansko, that is to charge as much as you possibly can with little concern for reputation or the future. If enough people resist the temptation of walking in the first Mehana they come across and then even if they do have the good sense to walk out again after discovering the prices pass this information on, then these ...
Hi all,
Vote with your feet, determine the price before ordering anything outside the menu, query menu prices etc. The Bulgarian business ethic unfortunately exists in Bansko, that is to charge as much as you possibly can with little concern for reputation or the future. If enough people resist the temptation of walking in the first Mehana they come across and then even if they do have the good sense to walk out again after discovering the prices pass this information on, then these businesses will not survive, the opposite is true as well, if you feel well served then shout about it, on this and other boards. There are reasonably priced bars and restaurants in Bansko, a lot in the old town off pirin street and beyond the square. Accept that these businesses who you feel are ripping you off have no obligation to you, they are in it to make money, not do you a financial favour. The same is true of your custom, you owe it to nobody, look after those who you feel have looked after you....
