I have just returned from Lapland excellnt snow! now want to book this christmas holiday in Bulgaria. could someone tell me is it always a white christmas in Bulgaria or does the snow start later. i seem to recal someone telling me it starts around December 17th? want to book as soon as possible thaks mandy
Just got back from Bulgaria (Borovetz), flew out there on 27 December 05.
The snow was not good, although there was some around, and it only snowed on the 3 and 4th Jan - just as we were leaving.
Having spoken to the locals, they say that the snow around Christmas is not reliable. Sometimes it snows for three days and then will rain for three days and all the snow will melt! We still got some skiing in, but on the runs closer to the resort we were skiing on a mixture of mud, slush, and ...

That said, it's a fantastic place and new year was amazing with fireworks everywhere (albeit a little scary!!) .
Check out the webcams on this site and you'll see what i mean - there is snow but the brown patches are the mud!!
I was out there in pompo for christmas this year the snow up until the 28th was realy good but then it rained on 28th got a good days sking in on 29th but no sking in on 30th on talking to some of the locals this is quiet typical weather at that time of the year and sometimes there is no snow at all. if you want to guarentee snow and realy good sking may be worth paying a bit more and going some where higher.
We were in Pamporovo for Christmas there was plenty of snow when we arrived on 23rd December. Snowed Christmas Day and there were people on the slopes in santa suits
