Theres so much to say- you would be really better off doing a search on the site for all the info you want- theres plenty believe me!
One of the bigger hotels- right next to the slope- Borosports ski school- I personally would say-yes- value for money(from what i know from here and talking to people etc), though i usually stay at the Samkov hotel- This year im at the Flora though. Good luck- you (especially the kids) will enjoy!
I've stayed at the Rila twice, excellent location. Always had great ski lessons. Breakfast good, eve meal not so (always ate out)!
Apartments clean, a little basic but no complaints.
Hotel bar, very expensive.
Great pool and jacuzzi.
Only prob, rooms not well sound proofed! Just have to hope your not next door to a noisy party, especially with the kids. Although security pretty good if you have problems.

Have to agree with ian, do a search.

I'm going with the family this year and booked the Flora apartments for a change. Have you looked at the Iglika Palace? Its just behind the Rila, cheaper, i think, and has some very good reviews.
There's a choice of rooms - the studios have 2 single beds and bunks beds plus small kitchen area. The rooms have 2 single beds and a bed settee for 1.
It is large but right in the thick of things. The front rooms can be noisy with revellers below but have great views of the main slope in front, where ski school meets, night skiing and toboggoning happen. You can request rooms facing the back.

Swimming pool good - usually the warmest in the resort, large lobby bar area but drinks are expensive, although you don't have to buy to sit there. Also run a ceramic painting club to keep kids occupied after skiing. Small games room and few shops, that my kids enjoy wandering in and out of.
Food is ok - large choice at breakfast from continental, smorges board, cereals, fruit, yoghourt to cooked eggs, bacon etc and made to order pancakes. Evening meal is also good choice from salads etc to 4/5 hot dishes (not always to kids taste) and they cook fresh pizza. Mine prefer to eat out in the evening.
Ski depot in basement but they do allow you to wear ski boots and carry skis up to rooms. Usually use Borosport for ski lessons - mixed reviews but if you get a ski instructor you don't click with, then ask to change.
I now book with Balkan, as if there's any problems with airport, flights etc, their customers get preferential treatment, which we benefitted from last year when Sofia was fog bound.
As Ian said, if you do a search on here, there's plenty of information/reviews.
I have stayed in the Rila with a young family.
We stayed in the Studios which have bunk beds as well as a small kitchen. Location is excellent.
Personally we found it too busy and prefer the smaller hotels. We have stayed in the Ela (next to the Gondola station) twice, which is modern a cosy.
I am just about to book the Breza, which sounds similar to the Ela. After checking Inghams and Crystal, Crystal are doing a good deal at the mo and it will cost me £1860 for 3 adults (1 is 13yrs ...

The Breza gets good reviews on here, and they do family rooms for 4!
Hope this helps.
