We have stayed last year and year before. Food was fine, but cheap enough to eat out if you want to experience the local cuisine - see other recent posts about places to eat etc. Pool is on the cold side, but there is a hot tub right next to it. A word of warning, the tiles around the pool are REALLY slippery so take care. Overall the Rila is great and the location is perfect. Enjoy.
I agree with the above. The Bulgarians tend to have their food only warm. Choose carefully and you will be OK. Nobody from our party has dropped dead in the past 3 years from the food. My kids love it as they can just keep going back for more. The small cakes are fantastic. They do a good tea in the afternoon in the posh down stairs restaurant next to the lifts and its included if you are HB. Rila is a great place to stay as it is right on the nursery slopes.

Samkov is better if you haver some experience as it is almost next door to the gondala. Staying there this year for the first time. Not sure what the food is like compared to the Rila. Anyone know?
Having stayed in both i would say that the food in the rila is much better than the samakov However, we go and take a look at whats on offer in the rila at night time and often as not end up eating out. Its ok they do have a wide choice we are just a bit fussy sometimes and want to eat out. Katys steak house is fab. The pool is a bit chilly but ok once your in and as said there is a 2 hot tubs so you can jump in and warm up. See you all on the 2nd
