samakov hotel

Hi
Never been on ski holiday before.
Have been to Bulgaria in summer 15 years ago on business so know what it was like then.
Am taking the kids 12 & 13 years to Hotel Samakov, Borovets in Feb half term ( package deal ), I know it will be busy but there is no choice. Is hotel ok?
We have ski package inc passes, equip & lessons, but we can all ski to confident parallel turn level( thanks to the snowdome ) Would we be ok to head straight to the pistes or better to get a private guide or is ...

We have ski package inc passes, equip & lessons, but we can all ski to confident parallel turn level( thanks to the snowdome ) Would we be ok to head straight to the pistes or better to get a private guide or is it important to go to the ski lessons in the package, some of the discussions suggest the first day is wasted getting into groups.
Thanks
Rob

nice hotel, sounds like you dont need ski school , might be a good idea for kids to go to intermediate ski school with other kids, whatever you decide its an easy resort to ski and find your way around. Hope you have a great holiday, Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

If you are at that level you would be OK on your own. The ski schools are quite relaxed so you may just want to try a day with the ski school because you would be amazed how fast they can bring you on if you are at a reasonable level and are in a group of like skiers. Also at that level the instructors tend to be more like guides when you are that good. Once you are happy you can then go off and do your own thing.

Yes use the ski school, youve only been indoors as i understand it. Use the school till your happy with the conditons, Boro is a lot more demanding than the snowdome, and you will not be doing yourself any favours by missing the classes, especially if youve paid for them!!!! The ski school in the samokov is the best in the resort, and is large enough that you can move up and down clases to get your right level. The ski school in the samokov is the best in the resort, and is large enough that you can move up and down clases to get your right level. The equipments also better(on the whole) than any of the others as well. TIP get down early to the boot room, get good stuff, then go upstairs and have a coffee/beer for an hour or so whilst every one sorts them selves out. Half term is not especially more busy than any other time, as the resort is usually full to capacity most weeks, the real differance comes when its a BG holiday and loads of BGers take to the slopes, all in all a good choice and have a good time

re: samakov hotel

yeah ski schools are amazing and very personal, they really do help, im a snowboarder and always have lesons they push you and guide you that bit more from just starting to help with jumps and half pipes and knoledge of the area and the best places to go. Always worth sticking with instructers and getting the most out of your holiday.
