Hi Paul
staying at the samokov in Feb this will be are third time we have stayed in this hotel. clean and tidy plenty of choice food wise and central for slopes and bars. Never had a problem so good time will be had
Next March will be are second time in the Samokov, good location, rooms clean and tidy, and there was always plenty of hot water available. The swimming pool is quite big but a bit cold!!!.
Have fun.
Stayed in the Samokov last March.
Was quite a basic hotel that may have been up there in its day, but has become a bit tired and in need of a bit of a refurb.
I'd say it was more 3* than 4*.
I'd recommend it mind you as it generally has far more plus sides than negatives.
the swimming pool was cold and you have to pay for sauna etc, well you are supposed to, but we managed to skip that.
The ten pin bowling was the most backward I've ever played on.

You had to pay for the gym which was a waste of time as a lot of the equipment was antiquated and broken and actually broke when we were there almost resulting in my brother being badly injured.
There was no sealing between our bath / shower and the back of the bathroom, so it was liable to flooding every time you had a shower unless you were careful were you directed the water.
The rooms were adequate, though could do with a face lift, as they are becoming a bit battered.
Most rooms have balconies, which was good, becuse you could leave stuff out on them like bottled water and it would be nice and cool for the morning.
The food was typically Bulgarian, with lots of salads. Generally the people i go with are not picky eaters and so there was plenty of food, and we ate in the hotel most nights, but I'd recommend maybe eating out the odd time as the food its a bit monotonous.
The staff though were friendly and attentive and we did enjoy coming in to sit in the huge foyer after a hard days skiing for a coffe or something a bit stronger.
One huge advantage was that the Samokov had a big ski school convenienly located in the hotel basement, which meant you could lie on a bit in the morning after a hard nights play and not much sleep and roll out of bed around nine, get down for breakfast and then on to the basement to get you skis and meet your group. Was never late once!
We did have a great time and all the quirky, slightly rough around the edges bits always add something to our holiday.
