8 of us are booked to stay at the...... Hotel Olymp, Borovets - all I've read in reviews is how awful it is, how crap the food is and how people hated it. Is it really that bad? The hotel is almost fully booked for the week we're going, so unless they're all first timers it can't be that bad can it???
I can only answer your question in general, as I have never stayed in your hotel, nor have I ever been to Borovets. I have however visited Bulgaria over 20 times and stayed in many hotels.
The common factor is that the standerds are not the same as you would get in places like Spain or France or Austria.
However the hotels are clean, comfortable and the food is fine.
Too many people expect to pay very little and get 5 star treatment.

As a seasoned traveller to this wonderful country I would suggest you go with an open mind and do not be put off by peoples over-expectations.
BULGARIA IS FANTASTIC........ and I have yet to die of stavation, nor have I needed to complain about my accomodation.
A massive majotity of people who visit Borovets return, and I'm sure they would not do this if it were anything other than fantastic.
Hi ya Mand, don't be scared it's not that bad. The rooms are very basic, but you only have to sleep in them. The food was OK and there is a caffetria where it is cheeper to buy drinks and bring down to the dining room. The showers are not very good though. But it is at the top of the nursery slope, and you can walk down to the town in about five mins. Personally I thought Brovets was not as good as Pamporvo, we are going there this time again. Demertri was a fantastic instrutor. My two boys ...

wow - are you on here 24hrs??? Thanks for such a quick response!
I feel a little better as just read the reviews on this website, which were all really good. It's not like we'll be spending too much time in the hotel anyway. Plus the bad reviews all sounded like they were written by stuck up westerners expecting to be treated like royals. Us lot are pretty open minded, just up for a laugh and watching each other fall over on the slopes.
Thanks for the tips.
Enjoy your next trip out ...

I loved Borovets - yes the Olymp is a little way out in comparison to say the Rila which is in the real centre of town, but you've got the Bor and Edelweiss on the other side of town so you'll be fine. At least if you get tired you can dive back to the hotel if necessary with no hassle.
I don;t think you'll have anything to worry about with the Olymp. Yeah it is basic but this should be reflected in the price you paid, hopefully.
I found the rooms clean, warm !! and of a decent enough size.
It's only a 10 minute walk from the 'action' of the main town....which is nice in the morning 'cause you can ski down.....it is a bit of bind walking back in the evening but 10 lev to a cab driver will sort that out fine.....and they'll carry your ski;s.

I stayed in the Rila last year which yes was more pleasing to the eye and is more central but I think the Olymp offered a bit more 'charm'.
One thing though don;t just dive straight into the pool...............it was freezing !!!!!
As you say it's just a base for the night and even if it doesn;t meet your expectations enjoy the rest of what Borovets has to offer, it;s a great place
photos would be cool. if you have them on computer, could you e-mail me them???
God, I feel like i've made more friends in a few hours on this website than i would if i went back to school.....
