Thank you, BoroDave for your advice to go to Borovetz. It was the best thing to do today. You said that one of the Markudjik lifts was going to work. You were wrong: 2 of them worked!!! It was fantastic. There were no more than 40 people and the snow, although wet, had a funny feeling to it, like it was powder (honest). As there had been no old tracks in the snow, you could see your own traces, so it did feel like real powder. Well, of course you had to walk with your skis a bit form the gondola, and then you had to seek the correct patches of snow, to avoid the bare bits, but that only made it more interesting?
I met a friend who had come back from Bansko, they just stopped the season there today, despite there still beeing very good snow?! (thank you again, BoroDave). As the season in Pamporovo had finished, we realised that we were the only people in the country who were skiing at that moment. This was indeed the last day, as confirmed by the lift people. So at the end of the day we declared the season closed. Athough 2-3 people were still skiing when we left, I thought that we were the last ones to close this great season.
Good buy, see you again in a few months. Let us hope there will be more next year.
how much snow was there left off and on the pistes? its amazing to think the lifts have kept running for all this time, its shows how long it takes to melt thick snow
the snow is now in patches, I guess up to 50 cm at places, maybe more. Hardly any left under the level of the upper gondola station, although some people were managing to ski down to the middle station. But on the top there were only few bare places, most of the pists were still skiable. Having said that, a lot of water was collecting towards the end of the day. Today it is 28C in Sofia, yesterday 24. I think it will all melt this week, it is really hot.
Nice place Borovetz, have to admit, ...

Nice place Borovetz, have to admit, with the new lift, it might overtake Bansko, in any case I will visit it a bit more frequently than the once per 20 years which is my record now (been there twice).
they had two new 4-man chairlifts this season, both of which were excellent. All borovets needs now are more snowcannons to cover all the pistes (at the moment the only pistes covered by artificial snow cannons are the ones that run in to the resort outside the Rila Hotel).
