just been on their Website, as a member, and they still show as from 12th Jan still only 2 lifts running in Borovets! they are so dated in their information, as this was the case a few year ago when we went to Austria and they said the day we left (when the report was written), only 2 lifts open in the resort and snow was poor. However when we arrived it was a case of 15 of 16 lifts open, and the snow was quite good actually, and there had been no new snow!

Rather misleading info from the so called Ski Club of Great Britain!
Just to prove we have to wait until PP sends his more reliable info out! (ever thought of telling them too Pete?)!
Hi Ian, have you any idea what the snow is like in the Alps and Austria at the moment just out of curiosity? Are all the other resorts around Europe suffering from a lack of snow too?
I'm going to Borovets Jan 20th and wanna ski big time after looking forward to it for ages but can't believe that it hasn't been snowing enough to open the whole resort up . I'm going to Borovets Jan 20th and wanna ski big time after looking forward to it for ages but can't believe that it hasn't been snowing enough to open the whole resort up . I keep reading reports about only 2 lifts open and icy patches in places and having to walk down some slopes and sometimes it's to cold for the snow machines to work and other times it's to warm for the snow machines to work.
In the past what are the snow conditions normally like for Borovets at this time of year?
Hi Rob, snow is usually good now, look at the historical links or web cams to see. The whole of Europe has had a rather bad early season, However France has fared a little better of recent, and Austria has had a little more, but by nowhere near their norm. There are so many varied reports coming out as to how it actually is, for example the Ski Club website states it is possible to ski most of the interlinked villiages in the Ski Welt system in Austria(Soll, Scheffau, Itter, Hoppfgarten etc) ...

This website is reliable as to what is actually going on in resort, and Petes Friday conditions report can be taken as fact, rather than some of the crap i hear from other sites (excuse the French).
There will be snow, and as some have predicted you may have a good few days of fresh stuff to brighten the slopes up! (just save it for me in March!)
where are you staying, and how many of you are going?
What truely amazes me Ian are the number of people who live, work, or just stay in the resorts for a long time but never come on here and post regular updates
It shouldn't be for me to have to ring the resorts every Friday but that seems to be the only way.
Howdy, we're all staying at the Samakov have heard several reports about bad/awful food but rest about the hotel sounds good. I like the fact it has bowling and large swimming pool and night club and stuff and I'll eat pretty much anything after I've paid for the half board hehe (my girlfriend is a bit fussier though so will check out other restaurants too).

My girlfriend wanted to go to one of the fancy expensive places like Austrai Italy etc we're intermediates though and this is going to be first time to Bulgaria and the package price we got was awesome even if we don't get to ski to much then there's still other stuff we can do.
If we would have paid a lot for top notch resort and not had much snow and had to pay lots for activities and food and beer then that would have been another matter.
I like to plan ahead I was going to try to go skiing one week in Jan and then again in Bulgaria at end of March but we haven't go enough holiday left for this year.
Generally what is the best time of year to go to Borovets/Bulgaria for snow and conditions?
Totally agree Pete, wouldnt it be nice for a local to post their in resort, as it is now, for the board to read. Probably everyone would buy them a pint when we got across there too and make it their worth!
(Might mention that to the Hotel when we visit in March or some keen bar tender!)
Rob, Samakov is fine, we allways stay there. Dont go expecting the Ritz, cos it aint, but the hotel itself is rather impressive. The food is fine if you get there for opening, if you like it hot that is, otherwise use the microwaves to heat it up. We allways find something to eat, and usually have a few evenings eating out because we want to, rather than we have to.
The swimming pool is rather on the cool side, be warned!, but hey thats fun aint it as the kids say!

The Bowling is fun and in the hotel, with a few beers you cant go wrong!
Seriously, if the snow comes you cant ask for a better holliday at the price, just write back on the board when you return to let us all know what you thought please.
Have a good holl!
Most the big hotels (Samokov and Rila) do the massages, otherwise learn when in resort! (you will see!)
The lift ques will depend on what classes you are in, and where you go, again depending upon snow conditions i suppose, but your on holliday and its all part of the fun!
Rob, are you an all male party by any chance?
