Ski boots-has anyone else had problems recently when checking ski boots separately from their suit case?I have always checked in my case and boots in a boot bag with no problem (both still under the weight) but I hear from a friend who flew out to Sophia on Sunday with Monarch that they were asked to pay extra for the boots. Do we now have to pack out boots in our suitcase?

Different airline seem to have different rules on this. Balkan seem quite relaxed about it and allow them on as hand luggage (provided they are within the acceptable size and weight) whereas Monarch seem to have a different take on it. My advice would be to contact whoever you are travelling with to get a definative answer directly from them.

No problem either way for me Heathrow to Sofia on BA last week with helmet and boots (and various other odds and ends) in my hand luggage.

I had a prob this yr with my boots sending my hold case over weight....I asked (balkan) if i could take them on as hand luggage but they said they wernt allowed in the cabin (this was at check in desk) so just paid extra charge of £72excess baggage!!!!!!.
I found that if I had pre booked as ski stuff in the hold this wud have been £30.
Whilst getting on the plane I saw people taking boot bags on with out issue!
In resort i bought a cheap sports bag and brought the home in ...
