i dont want people to think i am pamps bashing because i had a great week skiing with good piste conditions, two very cold days however, minus 26 on the top one day last week with a wind chill exceeding minus 30 thats what you call extreme skiing.but back to my main point pamps ski school and instructors the grading of poeple for the various groups in some cases not all ,was odd as the was three different abilitys in my group alone on sunday we were put in the hands of an instructor called denko there was six in the group at the start but was informed that some girls would be joining us on the monday that denko had previously taught the spice girls as he liked to call them plus two other young lads ,both girls and lads were clearly in the wrong group the lads were told to drop down a group but the girls remained we went down mambo no5 that day and they were clearly out of there depth they dropped out after that run down seeming quite distressed by the experience the next day we were to meet at 10 outside the ski school we did this only to be asked as we were familiar with the resort to go up on the 3 man lift and he would wait for the spice girls to show up this went on through monday ,tuesday, wed,on thursday denko skied with us till dinner and said that he would be meeting the spice girls after dinner so that he could teach them instead, he covered his back by saying that we could also join him after dinner but it was certainly implied that it woul be better if we did our own thing which we did ,as we were at a different level to the spice girls .then on friday we eventually met up with denko at the silverlakes to start our day at 10.40 we did agree to meet him there at 10.30 as he wanted to meet the girls and bring them up to us when he did turn up he came in to tell us that the girls had not turned up but went to produce a bottle of local champangne that we all politley shared with him i will say all six of us came away with the same thought which was his way of buttering us up for his end of the week tip. he also then went onto say at 11.05 that he would not be skiing at all that day with us and we could do what we liked funny isnt it that a little while later that day we spotted him with his lovely spice girls.i will finish this polite rant by saying this particular instructor pulled the carpet right from under us and he knew exactly what he was on with we had lack lustre instruction for most of the week as he was constantly late waiting for the spice girls to turn up so he said more likley arranging went to meet up with them as soon as he had got rid of us i feel he bought the ski school into disrepute and felt truly sorry having to recant this story to maria the chief ski instructor who could not believe what had been going on the instructor in question did not get a tip and did not deserve the fortunate job he has got .i would however give praise to a lady called stoikia if that is the correct spelling who tutored my son and daughter all week she was a shining example of how a insructor should behave and my children throughly enjoyed themselves all week and my son was in tears on the last night as he had ,had such a good time Neutral

re: ski instructors

I think we all must remember that it is our holiday we have paid for ski school and therefore after reading this thread be more up front. if people can not get there on time or are what to be late arrange to meet the late arrivals at the convince of the early birds.
Denko has tought us before and i can only say he was very patient with my son who took 3 days to manage a snowplough due to a club foot.
Soory to hear about your bad experience but it will help people to be aware of these ...

re: ski instructors

no matter what you should complain as soon as you have a problem, the Bulgarians will listen and it will improve the next day, I know what you mean about the different levels, it is a pain if you get with a group who are all different levels, they need to sort that out and rearrange the classes after the first day if there are different levels.

Shame for you Andy. The firat year we went to Borovets our instructor Krassi had a group of 4 tagged onto him. Two were beginners and the other 2 used to go off and rejoin us at lunch etc. He did pay attention to us all but I did feel at the time he was rather pushing the rest of the group so that we would be able to ski with the other 2 as well.

Krassi is actually a friend of our now and my husband wa sthe tagger on the next time we went - they do like to look after their "friends" ...

In hindsight I bet you wished you had said aomething at the beginning of the week as I'm sure the ski school would have arranged for a new instructor for you. If this happens to others then you should arrange to change things before it is too late - It is your holiday and you have paid for instuction for 4 hours a day so that is what you should get.

Glad the kids had a great time and hope this hasn't put you off.

re: ski instructors

i do agree that most of the instructors are great, but the problem is the levels of skiing in each group, in other european resorts you are assessed at the end of each day and moved into the group most suited to you this helps to stop you being pushed if your not ready and also stops you feeling guilty about holding the rest of the group back if they are ready to move on, it dose need sorting out a bit may be we should comment more while we are out there

re: ski instructors

We had Denko a couple of years ago. We had a great time and I agree, his timekeeping was variable. But we liked a bit of independance and we all learnt to ski prety well. My boys had the beginners group skiing red runs by the end if the week. I dont think other beginners were given the chance. We liked him.Maria is great, the ski school there work really hard to entertain you, it's a great place!
