skiing for 6 year old?

Hi, myself and 2 kids are heading to Borovets, Rila Hotel on New Years Eve (Hogmany!). My 8 year old son is booked on a learn to ski pack, but according to my tour operator I cannot book anything for my 6 year old daughter. I was told she is automatically booked into the Kindergarten within the Rila.
Does anyone know where or how I can book actual ski lessons for the week for my daughter? I do know it is cheaper to book from the UK before arrival.
Thanks!

re: skiing for 6 year old?

The main thing you need to worry about before going is a lift pass and they are only required for over 7's. Are you all beginners?

I skied in a learn to ski class with my children the other year, the youngest was 6. She had been in kindergarten the year before. If the kindergarten is not suitable for her - you may feel she is too old, you will probably be able to sort something out when you get there. Who are you travelling with? If Inghams then their kindergarten is brilliant and she will get lessons twice a day anyway.

Want to know more then yell and I will see if I can help.

I've also just seen this podt which mu=ight also help you!

We stayed at the Rila Feb 05 and our son who is six years went to Kindergaten. I think the facility was for the Rila guests only, although i cant be sure.

He loved the place and was happy to attend...which was unusual given the previous experiences we have had leaving him in a nursery etc.

You can drop the children at 0900 and pick them up at 1700 if you so wish, however we left our son between 1000 and ...

The kids are fed and looked after by women only, who were attentive and trustworthy, although some do not speak fluent english.

The children are taken out of the hotel kindergarten twice a day. In the morning to sledge and in the afternoon to ski.

There are facilities for having a nap, a play area, games and a dining room.

Overall, pretty good, considering it was free if you paid for a full ski package for an adult.

Feel free to email me for more info; john@harri2424.fsnet.co.uk

re: skiing for 6 year old?

Hi Ellie

Thanks for that!
Only my children are beginners, I have skied for over 20 years. I just felt now was a good age for them to learn, and Bulgaria seems ideal. Most of the discussion points mention Borovets being ideal for beginners.
I booked through Fasttrack Holidays, offhand I think it is a First Choice package.. or is it Airtours? I do know my daughter has a place in the Kindergarten at the Rila Hotel.

Anyway, thanks again!

re: skiing for 6 year old?

I first took my son skiing when he was 2 years old and last year at the age of 4 he was able to ski from the top of the chair lifts in Borovets right down to the rila on his own. he was able to get boots and a ski pass when we booked through our operator(our rep was very helpful). If you are looking for a private instructor you can ask your rep or any of the locals. They are friendly and extremely helpful. If you wish to contact me you can :-

re: skiing for 6 year old?

Hi Irene
My Husband and I and our 6 yr old daughter are also travelling to the Rila on 31 dec from Gatwick. My daughter is booked into the Rila Kindergarten and i'm on a learn to ski. Husband already ski's. My daughter is not too keen on being left in unfamiliar surrondings and we were going to ask if she could join me. Failing that it will be nice to know that there may be another girl her age in the kindergarten.
Maybe we'll see you.

re: skiing for 6 year old?

Hi Lisa

This sounds ideal!
We fly from Birmingham, although setting off from Aberdeen.
The only reason I wasn't keen for my daughter to go to the Kindergarten was getting the impression that it would be much younger children who would be there.
In saying that, I haven't read any bad reports about the Kindergarten, it sounds like a fantastic service that they provide.

What I may do, is put my daughter to the Kindergarten initially and see how it goes. There is always the option of private tution later in the week if necessary. This was advised by another discussion board member - Very HappyTHANK YOU JUDITH!
So Lisa, if you think your daughter may benefit from attending the Kindergarten with a new friend, just let me know and we can make plans to hook up.... I know my daughter would be delighted to have a friend there for arrival!
