re: snow??

It has snowed, as far down as Samakov, maybe 10cm in the town, and cold with it... Felt wintery as we left to go back to Bansko, here is none, apart from the mountain...

re: snow??

Borovets are running cannons also so we have been told to try and get a base down. They believe we are going to have low temps through to the start of the season and so are gambling starting cannons early..... all good if temps start low!!!

re: snow??

whats happening with bansko. For some reason all the webcams are down so i cant see whats going on. i know we are still 6-7weeks away from the season opening but it feels as though we could see some good early snow. it really isnt a problem though as this year i was really concerned but when i went in Jan there had been little or no snow at all in the resort but we skiing on the snow the canons put down and most of the mountain was just fine to ski on. people were cancelling holidays. ...

Bansko can deal with the lack of snow, people ask to compare bansko to borovets and pamp. I dont know whether other resorts have the same capability to deal with no snow as effectively as Bansko. For me, Bansko every time. fingers crossed though for a year of skiing on waist deep fresh powder each morning!!!!

re: snow??

With the existing cannons (over 220) and the new ones this summer, we have one of the highest concentrations per km of any resort in Europe... Banskoboy is right, Bansko is basically snow sure (can't guarantee the quality im afraid) and this is the reason for the increased visitor numbers year on year (6.5% last season, 10% the season before), when resorts around us in Greece, Romania, Serbia and those within BG cannot provide snow, they flood here (2 years ago around Christmas, 35,000 in ...

This obviously creates problems as Bansko almost becomes a victim of its own success, and massive queues used to form...
Ulen reacted in providing ten 23 seat buses to ferry guests up the hill, better loading of gondola cars, upgraded 4man chair to 6 to cope with bottleneck at top of gondola, and the new 4 man on Platoto, to keep the skiers on the top of the mountain...
Two new lifts should have gone in this summer (bloody treehuggers) but they will at some point, Bansko is kicking the trend against the rest of the European ski resorts, seeing continued investment, higher tourist numbers, and positive feelings for the future... Wink
