snowboard helmets

Hi all,
We are off tomorrow and I was going to get a snowboard helmet for my son (OK, I left it a little late) . Do you think a skate helmet is better than nothing - I think it just doenst cover the ears which may be a little chilly! or can I get one out there? Sounds like it should be a soft fall though with the snow on the way!

its the ice underneath that can cause the problem

yeah my son was looking at a skate helmet unless yourare near an argos extra store where they are about 15quid
