At 11 he should be fine ... better than fine in fact, young enough to bounce back up from a fall, closer to the ground for a better centre of gravity and absolutely no fear! As long as he pays attention he'll do better than the adults.

I teach at a wee dry slope in Scotland and although I get five year olds, I always recommend that you have to be over 7 for a 1 hour lesson, the attention span isn't really there in anyone younger. In saying that, I'm teaching a lesson, not running a ...

I teach at a wee dry slope in Scotland and although I get five year olds, I always recommend that you have to be over 7 for a 1 hour lesson, the attention span isn't really there in anyone younger. In saying that, I'm teaching a lesson, not running a kindergarten, so the poor souls who look after kids in the resort may have some tricks to keep the little darlings interested that wee bit longer.

Don't be annoyed at him for leaving you in his dust by day three by the way! ... and think about getting him a helmet.

re: snowboarding

i thought in bulgaria it was 13 that the travel agents said that children could be booked snowboard lessons, and i know that last year i couldnt book lessons for my children as was recommended told they were to young and their knees wouldnt be up to it, that was in Boro.
i was told they could do they evening taster lesson which they are again doing this year. i guess it depends where you go and who you ask though but also i agree about the helmet

re: snowboarding

We were certainly told the same by Balkan, that our 10 year old would have to ski, even though she wanted to board.
The problem appears to be the lack of snowboarding equipment in Bulgaria resorts for the smaller people.

We're off to Canada next New Year and it doesn't seem to be an issue there.

re: snowboarding

hm, my step daughter turned 12 over the christmas period. she learnt to board in milton keynes when she was 11 and had lessons while we were away in france a few weeks ago. she's the most puny weakling ever and although we got no end of excuses for her apparent physical weakness, she was fine taking instructions off her teacher and by the end of the week she was happily boarding down long greens and blues and carrying all her equipment. i'd say snowboardvicky is right - it may not simply be ...
