YIP!! - twas in 2006 when it was snowing like the clappers here so I rang the 'ski-hut' of Weardale ski club and sure enough the lift was doing a roaring trade. Getting there was a challenge - basically drive for about 10 miles into Weardale, turn left and point the car upwards - soon becomes a single track. They have a full Poma lift - was purchased from Austria some years ago.

I think it cost me about £10 for non-member day pass - mind you - you have walk for a while before you get to the lift. Would you credit it that after 2 runs there were whiteout conditions and that was it for the day! The car was dug in when I got back but luckily the 'regulars' all carried shovels in their cars and they helped me out!
I also skied Yad Moss (near Alstoon) the same year - similar price, bit more varied but quite a climb to reach the lift! You'll find both of their webcams on www.snoweye.com and they both have their own respective websites.

Cheers!

Weardale rocks on a good day, which are very few and far between unfortunatley these days. Been going since i was a whipper snapper and have had some excellend days boarding within the past 3 years. About 3 years ago i got a full weeks boarding two of which saw excellent snow and excellent sun. In good snow The upper slopes can offer some good fun and a good range of slopes when the snow builds up enough, but that needs a lot of snow. But unfortunatley most of the time the upper slopes do not get enough snow to give a good range of slopes to go down. There is usually the run just down the side of the tow though. The walk is only a short one in my opinion and it warms you up nicely. Day Passes have recently gone up to £20 per day with an annual pass for £26. I think they still have a policy that if you buy a day pass and then come back for another day within the same season the cost off your day pass will contribute to your season pass, so keep your day pass for this reason. You will rarely get to go before christmas but keep an eye out on the webcam and give a call to the snowline if the weather is looing up. Take a look at the website. Lets hope we get a few good days this year. If the weather is good (bad) you may struggle to get up the first incline towards the slope once you get off the main roads. If you have chains take them, it is also a good idea to take a shovel as per the previouse post. There will also be lots of friendly people(including me) willing to give a lift if you cant make it up the hill. Its a long walk from there, i've done it before. Very Happy

re: snowing in newcastle

We live about an hours drive from here and had a ride up there last year, it's a fair hike from the main road, What are the main roads like round that area in good snow, do they keep them clear or do you usually have problems?
