The more i read the more concerned i'm getting!Is it a regular thing that flights are getting diverted?

It is usually due to fog but Sofia has now been upgraded with low visabily certs. Cant help with the snow though! Landed there in deep snow myself with Wizzair when the british pilots were heading to Greece.

it does depend who you fly with. My sisters flight with Wizz air diverted to Theseliki last year (because of fog) but Bulgarian air landed two minutes later. It is true the airport has been upgraded though.Theseloniki is not bad if you are going to Bansko, it is not much further than Sofia.

british pilots will not land if they cannot take off again.. they do not wish to be stuck in bulgaria so ... they will dump its cargo any where they can ... last year thomson dumped us at thesaloniki.. took 14 hours to get to pamps... balkan flights that day landed at plovdiv....pilots and tour operaters give little regard to charter passengers.. once again i am forced to use tui group .. would rather use balkan but they have pulled out of local departures..... rant over ..

we have flown to Sofia for the last 6 years with Bulgarian Air and not once been transferred to another airport. Even on our return this Saturday the flight took off with snow on the runway, it would have been cancelled in the UK!
