Have been reading different posts and am confused!! Some say the roads from the airport to bansko are alot better and the transfer time is about 2 - 2.5 hrs and you look at another post and it says it will take 4hrs. Which is it. Can anyone be more specific. We are coming over in Jan again and last time it took us 4hrs so I am hoping for it to be reduced abit with the roads being better. Can anyone enlighten and have the roads actually been done.
cheers
I'm one of the many property owning brits... done the trip a number of times... average of 2hr45mins... that includes a loo stop and getting lost getting out Sofia onto the main motorways - which I do every time...
depends on what day/ time of day, if theyve closed part of the ringroad, rush hour etc. the trouble is the airport is the other side of the worst ringroad in the world or the most congested city centre in the world and the road out to bansko
3 hours not less is average and this if you dont count the travel around sofia and the last 20-30kms into Bansko itself the last climb from the valley notorious section with alot of crashes. Less only in the summer or when the road is nice dry and clean but then it wont be winter anyway.
forget about the weekend as cars from sofia are blocking the approaches to Bansko with long queues.sometimes it could take you 30 minutes just to reach the centre of Bansko.
Went to Bansko for the first time last year and had the same issue. 4 hours outbound. The owner of the house we stayed at says it should be around 2.5 hours. However she drives a car while we were in a big mini bus full of people and lugage so our speed and acceloration was much slower.
On the return Journey it took 3 hours since I think the driver understood where the accelorator was.
So I am not expecting less than 3 hours this year and hopefully we get a driver who can drive ...
