I've spent the last few years skiing in Bansko, but am going to Canada this year to try something different. I've just been looking at some of the runs and ability levels over there and there's no mention of reds, only blues and blacks.
If I was skiing reds fine in Bansko last year, does that mean I should try out blacks in canada, or are bulgarian reds closer to blues over there?
Thanks for your help - don't want to end up stranded on a black before I'm ready!
You best bet would be to take a free mountain guide that most of the North American resort's offer. They will explain all the runs to suit your level you don't want to end up on a double diamond black.
You will love it in Canada, all of the runs are soooooh wide. You are right, you don't see many green or reds listed, but there are some there. Some of the greens are like blues, some blues like reds and so on, but if I remember correctly the runs are very well signposted, and there is usually a gentle run from every lift. You may find you can do a black there, but if you don't like the look of it you can take a Blue/Red back down.
The biggest bonus apart from the width of runs is ...

remeber you ski across a mountain not down it, so if you do end up on a black take it easy and take yorself right across the mountain if you were skiing reds you should be fine after a couple of days on blacks, sometimes its just a confidence thing rather than your skiing ablity and once you do feel you can do a black best feeling in the world when you are at the bottom believe me well worth it.
