hi all just returned frrm bansko 13th jan been for 1 week
well this is a true account .
the ski road is open with ice in places and you will need goood arms at the bottom for use with your poles as the lack of snow at the bottom means the slope is not as steep as with lots of snow.
top of the mountain is quite rough almost moguls this for about a third of the mountain.
next third is quite stony and rough but towards the bottom gets more skiable as this is accesible with the snow machines ...

there are 2 really nice grommed slopes towards the bottom but get up nice and early as there can be some queues nothing to serious though
the black run is awsome if you have the ba--s to go down it see a few people get stranded.
if you get to the gondola at a reasonable time you wont queue for long so avoid peek times ie 10.30
the kempinski 5 star still does what it says on the tin wicked !
the bulgarians i feel are still getting used to the western europeans coming over and so on the odd occasion you might get a bit of meat that is done to our prefered way if so they cannot apologise enough adn re cook on one occasion they actually supplied another meal ,can you imagine the boot on the otheer foot !!!
if you have booked ski school you will get your lesons they have the faciities to keep this going .
we were there from 6th -13th of jan and no snow fell apart from 1 minute on the friday.i feel you have to either make do with the conditions you meet or whinge and my family dont whinge and we had a great weeks skiing and holiday all the best to all that are going to visit bansko this year ,we will definatly be going back
Cheers for posting the acoount again, much appreciated. have the mad queues for the gondola that people complained about over New year disappeared now then?
yea we asked about this and was told this is peak time so what do people expect , its like going to oxford street shopping christmas eve and saying it was busy ere
Hi Just came back today from Bansko & agree with all said in the first posting. It was my first time skiing so lack of snow didn't really bother me on 1st 2 days. By midweek however the ski road was getting quite icy. Ski school was pretty good. I'd advise get to the Gondola for 8.30am, it takes about 20 mins to get up the mountain. Ski school starts at 10.00am so you have about an hour to practice. Sunday (your first day) will feel a bit tough with queues but that is just because there is a ...

You'll love it!
We too have just got back from a week in Bansko. We stayed at the Hotel Perun which other than the "random" but eatable food, cannot be faulted.
There was no snow which was disappointing, however for the beginners in our group this was ok because conditions were pleasant for them with snow cannon snow and sunshine.
The area around the Hotels is a building site and is not at all nice to be in or look at. The town of Bansko is charming if a little bleak, but the nightlife is good. ...

Food, drink and gifts are cheap compared to UK and Europe. We had several nights out in local restaurants and were looked after handsomely.
Other than the lack of snow the only thing that marred our holiday was The Russians ! They were rude and unpleasant both on and off the slopes, but gentle elbow action in the right places worked for us.
Ski school for both beginners and more advanced skiers was very good indeed.
We would certainly go again to Bansko but pretty soon there is not going to be enough skiing for the amount of holiday accommodation being built.
We used the most popular ski school whose name escapes me at the moment ! They all wore blue and yellow uniforms. The ski school came as part of a package so I have no idea actually how much it was per week but my daughter (intermediate skier) paid per day (far more expensive than booking in advance) and it cost us 50 lev per day which is about £20.00. This was for at least 4 hours tuition in a small group of 6 - 8.
Sorry I cant remember the name but I am sure someone else will !
