video camera!

is it a good idea to take the camcorder on the slopes? will it be agood opportunity to get some great action shots or does it usually end in tears with an expensive repair bill!
( i am a beginner as well!!)
thanks

re: video camera!

If you are a beginner then NO. Unless you have a little digi cam that slips in your pocket, but I take you are talking Handycam size here? If so dont even think about. It will just get in your way and like you said you may end up breaking it. If you are confident by the end of the week the perhaps think about it for the last day.

re: video camera!

If you wear a backpack you can wrap it up in a fleece or something and it's protected quite well. Did find it was a pain stopping, getting it out, getting cold fingers, then packing it away again. And while your doing this your mates have to wait up the slope for you to get ready. Best time is when there's a jump or something as your stop to take turns anyway and someones bound to go A over T :-)

re: video camera!

the only time I would take a camcorder is with a very experienced skier and even then only in a water proff cover. you can get some great shots with a disposable camera and if you lose it or break it its cost you nothing. they will fit in your coat pocket and if your like I was on my first day I wouldnt even bother to busy trying to stand up to take photos. In our resort there were people Filming with a camcorder and followed the instructers group around at the end of the week you could buy ...

re: video camera!

You can hire a professional in the resort who will spend a day with you and produce a video of your day before you return home. Very good, very reliable and fairly resonable prices (except I can't for the life of me remember how much.)

Makes much more sense.

re: video camera!

I always take a DV video camera and just wrap it in bubble wrap and keep it in a rucksack, not had a repair bill yet, But i aint a beginer, I trusted my more expensive digi camera to the slowest beginer and twas fine Smile

Its what holiday insurance is for!

re: video camera!

this was our first time skiing and we took a video camera and digital camera on the slopes after the first couple of days. it can be a hassle but its worth it when you get home and have film and photos to show. they both fitted in the inner pockets of my jacket and were well protected as they were to the front of my body when i was falling on my sides.
