has anyone ever stayed/lived in Madjare?
if so what is it like? and any idea of the best way to get to Borovets? i have heard you have to get a bus to samakov then one to borovets from there?
to get to Borovets from Madzhare you can go via Bei Iskar and then on to Borovets. This route is about 15km up over the mountain. However alot of the time in winter it is not possible to go this then. Then you would have to go via Samokov which is about a 25km trip. For buses most likely you would have to go via Samokov. Madzhare is a typical small Bulgarian village. Lots of run down houses but it is starting to improve slowly. I have only driven through so don't know what the restaurants ...

The said mountain road has always been passable, albeit slowly at times, for us. We have only ever hired a little car too - not a 4X4! A lot of new property has been built up along that road over the last couple of years so there is even more necessity to keep it open now.You would not need to use public transport to get to Borovets.
