Norwalk, an enterovirus isolated in the USA, has never hit Bulgaria before. Recently it has stricken the southwestern town of Samokov and the winter resort of Borovets. It is expected that the virus will strike down half of the Bulgarians, warns Dr Galin Kamenov from Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate. The infection causes acute pains in the abdomen, diarrhea and vomiting but is over within a couple of days. It is dangerous, though, for the children because it might lead to dehydration.
The epidemics has been kept secret not to scare away tourists from Borovets ski resort till an outbreak was registered in one of the major hotels, local people say.
The virus was isolated in Norwalk, Ohio in 1968. It has never been detected in Bulgaria before. In the end of last year the same virus infected 68 million Japanese.

We did warn about this in an earlier posting as my niece caught it when we were out there in feb 10/17th, and were told that 3 other people in our hotel had it, since being home 2 more of our party has gone down with it.re: virus strikes bulgaria-2day's news
This Virus is also in uk, so you can also get it here, half our work force has been affected by it, so it dosen't really matter where you are, pref i'd rather get it before i go on holiday not when im there

Who has ever gone on holiday and not had the shits? As for throwing up, I did that last night myself....it was after several pints but I was sick all the same. Still managed a kebab though.Least the bug manages to keep the holiday weight down.
