Steve,
How much it cost you to change....at present conditions look like being totally crap for at least the first half of Jan.

We came back from Pamps on 30th of Dec. We too were in fear of no snow etc and were all beginers also.
The conditions for learners for the first few days are no problem as you dont need a big area to get a grip of the basics. When we left there was ample snow for that and the drag lift areas / nursery slopes were fine if crowded,
Our instructor Gerry was brilliant and I skied the whole of the green run on day 3 which I never thought I could do. The Green run top half was ok for 50 ...

Our instructor Gerry was brilliant and I skied the whole of the green run on day 3 which I never thought I could do. The Green run top half was ok for 50 percent about 40 percent was icy and hard to control your skis which I found a bit of a challenge but did create a bit of carnage amongst some learners...for the rest the snow cover was not enough and small exposed areas of stone etc were dodgy...these bits I just walked .....bottom half of green run was dodgy as exposed areas were more prevailent. My relatives who ski a bit said some of other runs were a bit better. Locally a dump of snow was forecast for 10th Jan, we had snow on 30th and 26th. In short - for a learner if you have half the experience we had you will have a great time. The weather can turn quickly and I think actually Bulgaria has faired better than most of Europe. The webcam is at the bottom of the slope - if the left hand side of image has no snow then be concerned.
Otherwise enjoy - all our family can now ski and we had a wonderful holiday.

Hi, If you are serious about changing, do your homework first as Austria was the same as Bulgaria a few days ago, as there was very little snow there either. The lack of snow is affecting a lot of places not only Bulgaria, so you will be tacking a chance regardless of where you go.

I'm here now, nursery slopes are ok, but higher up the slopes are getting really bad, very icy and patchy, slushy too, lots of rocks, in some places you are on the road or grass. I've never seen so many people walking! Even at lunchtime today the centre of Pamporovo was full of people who have decided not to ski because of the conditions, and up at Stoudenets this morning there were loads of people without skis just up there for a drink and to people-watch.

The snow is melting quite fast as well. Roads are now slush, drips are pouring off the roofs as the snow melts, the trees on the mountains are green - they were covered in snow 2 days ago!

Very depressing, although people are saying we are going to get some snow tonight and tomorrow it will be falling on a rubbish base layer. Still, anything is better than this.

On a positive note, the instructors are brilliant, and the sun is shining!!
