i have been to borovets for the last seven years. is it just me or has this been the worst season for snow or has anyone seen worse.
having said that i have always had a great time and always had fresh snow to ski on if a little limited in the no. of open runs
i will be returning again next year and maybe just maybe it will be a fantastic season with loads of snow
duncan
It has been a poor season, both with actual snowfall and with average temperatures. The snowcannons here in Bansko have been our saviour. I would estimate that we have had only a metre or so of snow all season, though it is forecast to fall for the next three days.
i would add that , Borosport have made def improvements this year, for once it was actually a joy to ski over the Rila side, and infact the runs were preferable to the top of the gondola, the markdjuk slopes.
Snow cannons can definitely be the saviour when the natural snows a let down.
But its not just BG, the Brit interschools this week was 'like skiing in porridge' apparently!!

Talking to a friend who runs a couple of bars, he was closing up early due to lack of business, reckoned there were 500 tourists over xmas (ie tour company guests) and that hed never known a season with such low numbers. (we were in italy over xmas and it was the same there) so its not just Bulgaria its the industry as a whole
I think we were very lucky went for Feb half term 19/2-27/2
The week before it had snowed quite a bit very very low temps and it snowed every day we were there sometimes all day long and heavy overnight - waking up to a White Bansko was lovely.
We'd normally be skiing in Bansko in the last week of the season ie April (combines with easter so get 10 full days for taking 4 days annual leave.

The snow in April is worlds apart from Feb - Feb is so soft and so easy to turn, April is very icy quiet usually very sunny and I get a tan on the slopes.
Friends went to Bansko 3rd week in Jan and by the end of their week it did need more snow - he was certain it hadnt snowed since pre xmas then.
A week after we went skiing other people we know went to Bankso and again were lucky with good snow - first time for them all confident skiers & boarders and they all had a good time. They never go to the same resort twice so its always 1 or 2 destinations every year and has been since they left Uni always a different resort from my understanding. Even Gstaad..... wowsers (they had to make sarnies and take hip flasks up the slope - Bansko they ate like kings and drank like fish).
I'll be booking up for Bansko next ski season again
